Kid Blog Homework

Tonight make a list of books. Put them in three categories. You can put the titles and authors, or pictures of the book covers/jackets. If you cannot post it, remember to do it the old fashion way... paper and pencil!

Wednesday Night Homework

On Wednesday nights students are assigned a pretest at home. A parent older sibling should read the word, say it in a sentence, and then the student should write the word in cursive. When finished the test should be checked and graded by an adult. This midweek practice test will help ensure that students are prepared for the actual test in class on Friday. If internet access is available, students may take the test online at Spelling City. Please print the assignment or email it to me.

Do You Have a Growth Mindset?

Growth Mindset

What is it?
We used to think that our intelligence was fixed – meaning we were either smart or we weren’t. Scientists have proven again and again that simply is not true. Our brain acts like a muscle – the more we use it, the stronger (and smarter) our brain becomes.

A person with a fixed mindset may do
these things:

  • avoid challenges
  • give up easily
  • ignore feedback
  • become threatened by other people's success
  • try hard to appear as smart or capable as possible

A person with a growth mindset may do
these things:

  • embrace challenges
  • give their best effort
  • learn from feedback
  • become inspired by other people’s
  • successes
  • believe their intelligence can change if they work hard

  • Do you want to grow up to be an author, an astronaut, a scientist, or a doctor? That's great! But maybe you don't know how many bones are in an arm or even how to spell...yet. Believe in yourself, work hard, stay focused, and one day you'll get to where you want to be. That's the power of yet!
My apologies for this "kiddie" video. I <3 Jim Henson and at one point wanted to work for Sesame Street or PBS.
